They noted that with their assorted acquisitions in Pouilly-Fuisse that they now exploit 55 ha directly and buy in the equivalent of another 5 ha for a total of 60 ha. They told me that 2018 was 'extraordinarily precocious and while we didn't think so at the time, thank goodness the spring was so rainy as it provided water reserves for the vines during the hot and very dry summer. We picked a few parcels in Pouilly-Fuisse and our Puligny villages on the 26th of August and then stopped for a few days before resuming in Puligny on the 1st of September. We finally finished on the 13th in Verze. The volumes were impressively high at around 50 hl/ha and this is after we dropped an enormous amount of fruit, in fact it's the most wine that we have made since 1982. Potential alcohols were not especially high at between 12.5 and 13% and we attribute this to the volumes. Likewise, the post-malo pHs were also very good, coming in as they did between 3.05 to 3.15, which is pretty much textbook. As to the style, the wines are clearly the product of a warm vintage, but the yields helped mask that to a significant extent. In sum, they're ripe but not like say 2003, 2009 or 2015.' I agree with this take as the domaine fashioned some excellent wines in 2018 and in some ways they remind me of the Leflaive '82s. Now it of course remains to be seen if the 2018s age as well but if they do, those that have the patience to wait are in for a real treat as the Leflaive '82s are great wines. The succulent and delicious though notably intense flavors possess excellent punch if not quite the same mid-palate density, all wrapped in a highly complex, balanced and harmonious finish.
